WEEKLY BULLETIN

Volume 34, Number 22, May 30/31, 2009

FOOD FOR THOUGHT BY FATHER JEWITT
This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity. Back in the "old days" this day marked the last chance that marginal Catholics had to make their Easter Duties - confession and communion at least once a year.

The doctrine of the Trinity is one of the "mysteries" of our Christian faith. It is a reminder to us of the fact that God is someone far greater and more complex than the human mind is capable of comprehending. In spite of our arrogant assumption that we can contain the universe within the limits of our tiny brain we must bow before the awesome fact that God defies our efforts to fathom his greatness.

Many of you have seen my dog, Snowball, hanging around the parish. Snowball is one of those smart little mutts that can sometimes amaze us with their seeming intelligence. They quickly learn to sense our moods and can pick up signals that tell them what is in the offing - a walk, a ride in the car, dinner or a bath. It seems that at times that she can almost read my mind.

In spite of this I know that I am probably a great mystery to her. I am quite sure that she has absolutely no inkling of what a human being is really like - how we think, communicate or feel. She is a wonderful example of how I stand in relationship to God. Just as she could never hope to penetrate the mystery of my nature I can never hope to fully comprehend the nature of God. God is just as incomprehensible to me as I am to Snowball. Snowball, however, had one admirable quality. I do not think that she has concluded, as some humans do about God, that just because she cannot understand me I therefore do not exist! She is at least smart enough to realize that simply because I am a mystery to her does not mean that I am a figment of her imagination.

NEW WEBSITE DESIGN AND CHANGES
The parish is in the process of working with a national company to revise and improve our website. This new site will be both a public and private site rolled into one. The public portion of the new site will contain most of the content now offered. The private section will allow parishioners to enroll and have other information.

In addition, a major new feature will be the Online Business Directory. The purpose of this directory will be to support the ongoing cost of our web service. The Online Directory will be a "Yellow Page Like" listing of local businesses broken down by category that support this parish web project. This will be a great way to "shop with people you know and trust" while also "supporting those businesses that support the parish." Visit www.ournewproject.com/stbernardstulsa if you or your company is interested in placing an ad on the new site.

We are very excited about this new opportunity to use technology to strengthen our parish community. -Msgr. Gaalaas
