The goal of this group is for moms with young children to get together with other moms and children in our parish and/or preschool in a social setting to forge friendships with everyone! In such a busy world, we need time to sit back and enjoy the simple pleasures life has to offer – playtime and friendship. Our main focus is moms with preschool aged children; however during school breaks and summertime, older siblings are always welcome to join our fun. Many of them were part of this group before heading off to their adventures at “big kid” school.
We meet on the last Friday of the month at 10 a.m. Our meeting location varies depending on the weather. During the colder winter months or if rain is in the forecast, we meet in the parish gymnasium. The preschool allows us to use their gym toys to treat the kids to a few hours of active play on a day they may not be able to go outside. We have been known to stay long enough to enjoy a “picnic” lunch in the gym which the kids always enjoy! When it is warmer, we meet at the preschool playground or a local park.
Aside from our official meeting time, we periodically take “field trips” to local attractions. For example, during Spring Break 2009, we took a Behind the Scenes Tour at Krispy Kreme Donuts, and the kids were able to decorate their own donut. In the summer of 2008, we visited Blue Bell Ice Cream Factory for the free tour, enjoyed a day of painting at Purple Glaze, and met at parks for some extra summer fun.
Our email list is also used to alert other moms to impromptu park trips that are planned for the next day. If you are going to go do something fun and want to invite others, just let each other know!
We also help each other out on the many aspects of being a mom: what are the fun things to do all summer, who knows a good dentist in town, who can recommend a swim instructor, who can help with babysitting at an unexpected time, and many more of life’s issues.
